The ‘Children’s Rights and Business Atlas’ empowers business to measure impact on children through risk indicators across 195 countries and territories.
The Atlas, jointly developed by Global Child Forum and UNICEF, is an online due diligence platform to facilitate understanding of actual and potential business impact on children. Interactive and data- driven, the Atlas helps businesses, investors and industry organisations understand their footprint on children in various capacities; as family members of workers, employees, consumers, and community members.
“The world requires businesses to put the needs and rights of children at the forefront of their decision-making as we cannot achieve child-centred SDGs without businesses,” said Shanelle Hall, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Field Results. “We’ve designed the Atlas to be used by companies to proactively manage actual and potential business impact on children by integrating children’s rights into strategic planning for positive, sustainable change. The Atlas is also a key tool to foster longer-term business sustainability through improved due diligence of children’s human rights provisions.”
The Atlas was developed in alignment with the rights set forth in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the human rights due diligence processes articulated in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) as well as the Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRBPs) specifically concerning how business can prevent and address risks to child rights and maximise positive business impacts in the Workplace, Marketplace and Community and Environment.
