Global Child Forum on South America to be held in São Paulo

STOCKHOLM 21 February 2017: On 4 April, the Global Child Forum will take place in São Paulo, Brazil under the theme ‘investing in every child’. The Forum will highlight how business, by supporting children’s rights, can drive economic and social advancement in the region. The Forum is organized in collaboration with UNICEF and Childhood Brasil and will bring together over 300 leaders and decision-makers from business, government, civil society and academia.

“We are delighted to organize the Global Child Forum on South America in São Paulo, one of the world’s most vibrant cities and business hubs”, said Åse Bäckström, Managing Director of Global Child Forum. “But while South America is moving towards increasing prosperity, it’s also a region of economic and social inequality. This Forum will challenge business to build a sustainable and equitable future for the region’s children by integrating children’s rights into their operations.”

Many businesses are already seeing this as an opportunity for their companies and are breaking new ground in this area. The Forum will share these initiatives in delivering its vision of a sustainable world where children’s rights are respected and supported by all stakeholders. The one-day forum will be held in the presence of H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf, the Honorary Chairman of Global Child Forum, and H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden and Their Excellencies President Michel Temer and Mrs Marcela Temer of Brazil.

The event will provide a platform for business and global leaders as well as experts, NGOs, government and academia, to inspire new ways of thinking that can be developed to tackle the growing challenges facing the region’s children. A highlight of the forum will be the launch of the Children’s Rights and the Corporate Sector in South America benchmark study, done in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which scores the region’s top companies on children’s rights indicators.

Speakers include, among others:

Ms. Ana Maria Drummond, Executive Director, Childhood Brasil

Mr. Per Heggenes, CEO of the IKEA Foundation
